What is Good Forestry?

Good forestry is the science of managing stands of trees with long-term goals in mind. These goals include but are not limited to improving the health and vigor of your forests, promoting wildlife habitat, enhancing diversity of tree species, and generating sustained income yields. These goals are implemented by a variety of strategies, often involving a managed, supervised timber sale.

What Good Forestry is Not:

Good forestry is not indiscriminately harvesting trees without any clear goals in mind. Poor forestry can involve conducting an unmarked, unsupervised timber harvest during which all of the healthy, valuable trees are harvested, leaving weaker trees to reseed the forest. Ultimately, poor forestry can leave landowners with an unattractive, unhealthy stand of timber with little to no short- or long-term value.
