Timber Appraisal & Timber Harvesting in Gilsum, NH

We were hired by a landowner who had just purchased 300 acres in Cheshire County in NH. He wanted a timber appraisal done for basis depletion. He knew this would save him money on taxes when he had his timber harvested. Our client was also an avid and proficient hunter. He wanted any timber harvest to enhance the quality of the habitat for wildlife-particularly deer.

The parcel had been previously harvested approximately 15 years prior. It was a harvest with no forester oversight. It basically involved cutting the best and leaving the rest. Because of this , the parcel had fairly high volume of trees present but not a lot of it was of high quality.

We targeted the worst areas for small patch cuts. Areas where the timber was better quality, we thinned. This resulted in a finished product with a variety of "edge " for wildlife and a forest filled with high quality stems given room for growth.
